he attacks must stop.
SPJ is angered and alarmed by the trend of public officials — those who have
chosen to be in the public eye while working for the American people — and their treatment of journalists. In the last few weeks alone, Dan Heyman, John Donnelly and Ben Jacobs were threatened, harassed, battered or arrested.
This behavior cannot and will not be tolerated. Not by SPJ. Not by journalists. Not by the American people who know a free and unfettered press has been a cornerstone of democracy for the past 240 years.
No matter what, members of the press will continue to do their important work. And we will stand by them and fight for their right to do so without threats and intimidation. We hope you’ll stand with us and share some of the images and text below.
After all, attacks on journalism are attacks on democracy.
Enough.
