Mogadishu, Somalia
The Somali government has seized 4 drones at Aden Adde International Airport that arrived from Iran destined for Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Sources within the Somali government have informed Horufadhi Media that the Investigation Unit of the Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA)specially NISA monitoring and investigation commander conducted a rigorous investigation into the delivery of these drones initially transported via Somali Federal Member of Parliament (MP), Zakariye Mohamud.
NISA found that the drones were initially delivered to Turkey from Iran. They were then smuggled into Somalia via Mogadishu with the intended destination being the north eastern coastal town of Bosaso in which it would have been shipped to Yemen via the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean respectively.
The source elaborated that the culprits intended to avoid the initial Red Sea route due to fear of the Saudi-led coalition presence. The Arab coalition conduct regular security searches of vessels in the region.
The MP responsible for the delivery of these drones, Zakariye Mohamud has denied various allegations put forth regarding the transportation of these drones.
In a post on his social media, Mohamud explained that the drones were purchased from a company called Hufan, intended solely for “agricultural” purposes, and vigorously denied accusations.
